Boxing Is An Effective Total Body Workout

If anyone has seen Hilary Swank or Laila Ali, then they will understand the benefits that can be achieved from a boxing workout. Boxing provides a total body workout. Are you worried about someone taking a swing at you? That’s what’s great about boxing. You can box without being hit in the face. Of course, if you chose to spar with a partner, that can be an added challenge. However, if going head-to-head with someone is not your thing, no problem. You can chose to go through the moves as if you are sparring with a partner (shadow boxing). If you prefer more of a test, consider acquiring a heavy bag and a pair of gloves. However you choose to proceed with a boxing workout, if you do it about 3 times per week you should see the following benefits:

Weight loss
Boxing is a high intensity activity and by exerting more energy than you take in, you will have noticeable weight loss. In addition, if you approach your boxing routine in intervals, you may boost the fat burning potential. For example, box in rounds of 2-3 minutes. If you are new to exercise, start with shorter rounds of 30 to 60 seconds until you are able to increase your time. In between rounds, rest for up to a minute or so. Intervals will boost your fat burning potential and you will burn more calories.

Cardiovascular fitness
A boxing workout will help increase the production of endorphins which translates into more stamina and a boost in your overall energy levels. Whether you’re walking up the stairs at work, or running to catch the morning train, you will notice improved endurance.

Quality of life
Overall, by incorporating boxing into your workout you will notice an improvement in your health. Boxing helps relieve stress and tension. Imagine coming home after a long day at the office and taking frustrations out on a heavy bag. In addition, cardiovascular exercise helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. By incorporating consistent exercise, such as boxing into your day, you will feel good and have fun in the process.
